At Kingwood Strength & Conditioning, I have had great success working with the local Kingwood High School and Blue Tide swim teams. The swimmers that train with us have won multiple district, state, and national championships, and have received scholarships to major Division I college programs.
KHS and Blue Tide standouts Jamie Friedrichs and Jill Vitarius have recently accepted scholarships to Arizona State and Auburn. Ashley Alspaugh is currently on scholarship at TCU.
This summer, MJ Barczak, from Dennison College in Ohio, spent the summer with us. MJ gained 15 lbs and added 140 lbs to his squat max in just a little over 2 months. MJ is pictured below completing a set of chin ups at the end of a workout.
By going through my strength program, athletes have been able to increase their explosive power off the starting blocks and the wall, and increase their velocity in the water.
Additonally, my athletes have experienced dramatic DECREASES in shoulder and knee pain that is common among high level swimmers.
The program is very basic and strength gains come very rapidly. Exercises are focused on strengthening the legs, shoulders, and upperback.
For a competitive swimmer, weightroom activity is best limited to twice per week, and the whole body is trained at every session.
In swimming, first and last place is generally only determined by a matter of seconds. Adding a well designed strength program to your arsenal may be the tool you need to propel you from last to first.
The swimming program is held on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:30

Jill Vitarius – 5 state championships, 1 junior national championship (accpted scholarship to Auburn)
Jamie Friderichs - 4 state championships (accepted scholarship to Arizona State)
Ashley Alspaugh - received athletic scholarship to Texas Christian University
